Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Spec Ops Survival Mode Exclusivity – Infinity Ward Responds

Activision and Infinity Ward are doing a number of things correctly with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, from no Season Pass to crossplay and much more. The recent beta even broke records, becoming the most successful ever in Call of Duty history. However, fans are angry because of the Modern Warfare Spec Ops Survival mode being exclusive to PS4 for an entire year, which is basically how long it takes for another Call of Duty game to come out.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare releases on 25 October 2019 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. However, during the story trailer (view at the bottom of this article), it was revealed that the Modern Warfare Spec Ops Survival mode of the game will be exclusive to PS4 until 1 October 2020 and fans started lashing out in this Reddit thread.

So what is the Modern Warfare Spec Ops Survival mode? It is basically a horde-style survival mode where you need to defend points from oncoming waves of enemies which was made pretty popular with Modern Warfare 3. Fans were excited about the return of this mode until they read the fine print in the story trailer at the 2:17 mark.

Now, the narrative director at Infinity Ward, Taylor Kurosaki, has responded to a fan, saying that it is out of their control:

Taylor Kurosaki went on that the Survival mode is only 1% of the game and a sliver of the entire Spec Ops experience and that he’d rather have “everyone playing 99% of the content at the same time than 100% of the content sometime later”. Lastly, Infinity Ward explains that there is no other timed or exclusive content and that everyone will get everything else on the day it comes out.
