Call of Duty Movie Dwayne The Rock Johnson

Call of Duty Movie Reportedly in the Works With Dwayne Johnson

Last week, Dwayne Johnson (or better known as The Rock) teased that he would be starring in an upcoming, unannounced video game movie. Initially, fans believed that it would be a Gears of War movie. However, new reports have surfaced that suggest he’s actually working on Call of Duty.

According to inside sources at Giant Freakin Robot (and covered by Eurogamer), Johnson’s new video game movie is Call of Duty, with the actor set to appear in an unspecified leading role. No other details were offered on what the story might be or which game it will be based on, but the actor is still in the “talking” stages.

Since this comes from an inside source and not any studio, we recommend taking it with a grain of salt for now. Johnson’s tease last week suggested that it would be a gaming franchise he’d been a fan of for years, and while Gears of War might’ve been on top of the list due to the actor’s relationship with Xbox, it doesn’t seem to be the case.

A Call of Duty movie definitely sounds like something Hollywood would cook up with Dwayne Johnson in the leading role. Given the franchise’s huge popularity in gaming, with several entries still becoming the best-selling video game of each year, a movie adaptation appears to be the next logical step for them.

Johnson previously appeared in two other video game movie adaptations: 2005’s Doom and 2018’s Rampage. Needless to say, he’s no stranger to video game movies.

While Activision hasn’t officially announced a Call of Duty movie yet, it might be a matter of time before they do. Meanwhile, fans can play the series’ latest entry, Call of Duty: Vanguard, right now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
