It seems that Activision has officially begun teasing the new Call of Duty 2021 release called “Vanguard“. In the latest Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Season 5 artwork, the company hid a special message to fans confirming the game’s existence. As you know, Call of Duty Vanguard is supposedly this year’s flagship title set to release sometime later this year.
A strip of Japanese text is seen running down the image in the new Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War header art. It didn’t take long for fans to quickly spot the image with the text and translate it. According to Google Translate, the text reads “Vanguard coming”.

Keep in mind that this is the first official confirmation of the next Call of Duty game. Up to now, we have only heard rumours and reports of the game being in development. Earlier this year we heard that Call of Duty Vanguard is set in a fictional World War II. The story is based on an alternate timeline where the war didn’t end.

We also heard a while back that Activision wasn’t banking on the success of Call of Duty Vanguard either. According to reports, the game has suffered some nasty development issues with other studios brought into the development to aid it. However, everything has yet to be confirmed at this point.
Usually, Activision would have announced the new COD by now. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic, delays have affected the studio. Last year, we saw Black Ops Cold War only announced in August too. Call of Duty Vanguard is most likely to follow that trend.
