The Internet Archive has uploaded a pitch and reveal trailer for a PSP game developed by Japan Studio. The game is called STAMP and was seemingly developed by the studio and set to release in 2010 on the PlayStation Portable.
The pitch reveals a cute-looking side-scroller where players control Stampie as they traverse levels and use the PlayStation symbols to perform all sorts of tasks. The square button is used to create squares that link together to form bridges and other ridged assets.
The triangle button is then used as the main source of damage. Stampie would spawn the icons and kick them at enemies which resemble black ink-like goo. Circle is used to bounce as Stampie could create the symbol and use it to bounce itself around and even deflect projectiles back at enemies. Lastly, the X button is used to delete whatever Stampie created with the other symbols.
It also seems that STAMP included other Stampie characters with enhanced versions of their abilities. One Stampie could create larger squares that were heavier and able to block wind, for example. Another Stampie’s circle icon would float in the air creating new ways to get around. STAMP also featured multiplayer with a PvP and PvE co-op mode.
Sadly, the game never made it out of development. However, the archive shows that it had everything nailed down and was far into production before being cancelled. The pitch document does detail the game’s expected sales around certain price points. By the look of things, STAMP seemed to have the potential to make Sony some decent money. It also has plans for DLC and sequels, if successful.
It goes without saying that STAMP never made it out to launch. It adds to the list of cancelled games from Japan Studios. The developers were known for games like Ape Escape and Gravity Rush. Sadly, the studio was closed down in 2021 with most of the team forming with Asobi and other Sony Interactive Entertainment studios.
