Capcom Says it is Aware of Frame Rate Issues in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Capcom says the studio is aware of the various performance issues players are having in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The game, which launches on 22 March, seems to be struggling with frame rate issues, especially on PC. We complained about poor performance on PS5 during our review but PC gamers have been hit hard by the problems.

Capcom says that Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a heavy CPU game as each character is allocated CPU power in order to dynamically calculate their physical impact on the world around them. As a result, users with weaker CPUs may encounter some performance issues.

“In Dragon’s Dogma 2, a large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and dynamically calculates the impact of their physical presence in various environments. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate. We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future.”

As you read from the statement, Capcom is on the job. However, we don’t know when a fix will arrive. Players on Reddit have joined forces to think of ways to improve the game’s performance themselves. Some of them are considering killing all the NPCs in the game to reduce the game’s CPU load in towns.

Of course, killing NPCs in Dragon’s Dogma 2 means they end up going to the morgue and you can revive them with Wakestones when you need them. However, I don’t recommend this route as it may break some quests.

Capcom will likely tackle the performance issues as the first thing it does to fix Dragon’s Dogma 2. We will likely see some rather negative user reviews hit Steam in the next few days as players boot up the game and experience these problems for themselves.
