CD Projekt Announces New Witcher Trilogy and Cyberpunk Games in The Works

CD Projekt RED has yet to release The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition and the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty expansion but the developer is ready to reveal what they are working on next. The developer announced that a new Cyberpunk game is in the works at the studio and it will include multiplayer. This project is currently codenamed “Cyberpunk 2077 Orion” and according to CDPR, will take the franchise further and continue harnessing the potential of the dark future universe.

Absolutely no other details about this Cyberpunk Orion project have been announced at this stage and maybe that is for the best. Given the current game’s reputation, CD Project RED needs to rebuild some trust in the industry before they try and sell us on a new game.

When it comes to The Witcher series, CDPR announced it is actually working on three games in a new trilogy. Project Polaris is the first one which was announced already earlier this year. The game is being built on Unreal Engine 5 and is a story-driven open-world RPG “built on the legacy of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt“.

Project Polaris marks the first entry in the new trilogy and is only in pre-production at this point. However, CDPR says that all three new The Witcher games will release within the next six years. How would this be possible? Well, CDPR is also outsourcing some of the projects to third-party developers. This includes the second game in the trilogy, Project Sirius and the third game, Canis Majoris.

In addition to the new Cyberpunk game, CD Projekt RED is also working on a whole new original IP codenamed Hader. There are no details regarding this game at all. We will likely see this release within the next ten years or so.

While this news should be exciting for fans, CD Projekt RED has a lot of rebuilding to do after the failed launch of Cyberpunk 2077. The company says that The Witcher 3 Enhanced Edition for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC will still release this year but we have yet to see any details regarding the project. We can only hope that these games aren’t one giant lie like Cyberpunk 2077.
