CD Projekt Red, the developer behind The Witcher games and Cyberpunk 2077, says it’s still committed to making “cutting-edge single-player games.” As many gaming companies in the industry steadily shift over to live-service and multiplayer games, CD Projekt Red is holding its ground and championing the single-player experience for its upcoming schedule which includes The Witcher 4 and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077.
Speaking during the company’s latest earnings briefing, co-CEO Michal Nowakowski acknowledged that “the video game market continues to evolve” with new trends, possibly alluding to the rise of live-service titles and multiplayer-focused experiences being dished out by the likes of Warner Bros. Games and PlayStation – all to varying degrees of success and failure. What’s almost certain is that good single-player games still have a place on the market too, often becoming some of the year’s biggest sellers like this year’s Split Fiction and Monster Hunter Wilds.
Nowakowski doubled down on CD Projekt Red’s commitment to making more single-player titles, stating:
“Games rooted in strong franchises and immersive narratives will continue to enjoy great popularity. Our experience, along with brands such as The Witcher and Cyberpunk, which it is our pleasure to further develop, help us build a strong position on the market and paint a positive outlook–while collaboration with global tech and innovation leaders enables us to keep abreast of technical developments in the industry and continue to deliver top-quality entertainment.”
It might be tempting for CD Projekt Red to dip its feet into the live-service model as well but the company remains firm in its goal to create “cutting-edge single-player games” after all.
CD Projekt Red is currently hard at work on its next big game, The Witcher 4, which will revolve around Ciri taking up the mantle after Geralt of Rivia. The company offered a behind-the-scenes look at the game earlier this year, giving fans another glimpse at Ciri as the next witcher along with several new details which you can read more about right here.
