CDPR Can’t Say if Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 PS5/Series X Update Will Arrive This Year

CD Projekt has told its investors that the launch for The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 and Xbox Series X/S patch is still in limbo. During an investor call, CDPR stated that they “can’t say with certainty” whether or not the upgrades will arrive this year. Keep in mind that it has been over a year now since the studio announced the free upgrades for both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.

CDPR announced The Witcher 3 upgrade back in September 2020. The enhanced edition supposedly boasts raytracing, faster loading times and higher resolution and frame rate support. As for Cyberpunk 2077, this free PS5 and Xbox Series X upgrade was announced back in June 2020. It is meant to be the “definitive” visual experience of the game.

The studio originally announced that both of these upgrades would release this year. Cyberpunk 2077 was scheduled for the second half of 2021 and The Witcher 3 for late 2021. However, it seems that things aren’t going as planned. In early 2021, CD Projekt Red supposedly suffered from an internal data breach that caused major delays for not only the bug fixes and updates to Cyberpunk 2077 but set back the upgrade patch too.

Since then, CDPR has been reshuffling its studio in an attempt to fix Cyberpunk 2077. They even recently hired modders to help squash the bugs.

Senior vice president of CDRP Michał Nowakowski says that while the studio are aiming to release the upgrades this year, he can’t say with certainty that the production schedule won’t change.

“The target is to release the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 late this year. At the same time, keeping in mind the lessons we have learned during the past year and taking into account that this project still remains in development, we can’t say with full certainty that the production schedule will not change.”

The Witcher 3 upgrade is being handled by another studio called Saber Interactive. Nowakowski says that development is ongoing but “cannot be absolutely dead certain that the release schedule will not change”.

Given the rocky development of Cyberpunk 2077 and the false marketing and lies the studio has fed gamers, I don’t have any trust or respect for CDPR. Best we just forget about these upgraded until they arrive. If that means 2022 then so be it.
