CD Projekt Red recently announced a new expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 but the Polish studio is working on more than one project at the moment. Earlier this year, the company confirmed that it had started early development on the next entry in The Witcher series. Now, it has also revealed that the new Witcher saga will include “more than one game.”
When asked for more details about CD Projekt Red’s next Witcher saga during a recent half earnings call, president and co-CEO Adam Kiciński stated that the next Witcher game in the pre-production phases, but the studio is envisioning a few more titles to encompass the new saga.

“We have in mind more than one,” Kiciński confirmed. “The first saga was three games, so now we are thinking about more than one game, but we are in pre-production of the first game from the second Witcher saga.”
This seemingly implies that it will tell a new narrative and not a continuation of Geralt of Rivia’s story, which many fans felt concluded well enough with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s possible that the new saga could shift its protagonist to fellow Witcher Ciri, who played a pivotal role in the last game.
Instead of using the REDEngine which previous Witcher games were built on, CD Projekt Red will build the new Witcher title on Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5.
In addition to news of the next Witcher saga, CD Projekt Red also reaffirmed that the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S upgrades for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt were progressing well and were still on track to release in late 2022, though no exact release date has been given yet. Players who already own The Witcher 3 on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to upgrade their game to the current generation at no additional cost.
