CES 2020 – Grant Hinds Breaks Down the New AMD and MSI Announcements

CES 2020 took place last week and it was the biggest yet. We know about Sony’s new car, the PS5 logo, and the ASUS 360Hz gaming monitor. What else happened at the show that you need to know about?

Well, AMD and MSI had quite a big slate of new announcements including new 3rd generation mobile processors as well as the Radeon 5600 XT which AMD claims will be the ultimate 1080p gaming GPU. AMD is also working on a new feature called Smartshift that works by shifting the power from your CPU to your GPU and vice versa. It is all based on which processing unit needs more power on your device depending on what you are working on. AMD claims it will help boost performance and save energy. The company claims to have seen a 10% increase in gaming performance in Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 and a 12% increase in Cinebench with the feature enabled.

When it comes to MSI, the gaming hardware maker revealed a new GE66 Raider that has a new design and RGB lighting as well as a new fully-programmable Steelseries keyboard. It features a 300Hz display powered by NVIDIA RTX chipsets and 10th Gen Intel Core-i9 CPUs capable of up to 5GHz. MSI also revealed new RTX 2080Ti GPUs capable of crazy rendering performance.
