ChatGPT and South African English Apple Intelligence Arrives on iPhone in Latest iOS 18.2 Beta

Apple has added a new list of Apple Intelligence features to the iPhone which are now available in beta testing. The latest iOS 18.2 Beta 1 includes some new AI tools that were announced back in June but didn’t make it to launch during the iPhone 16 release.

New Apple Intelligence features include the ability to create emoji with Genmoji and images with Image Playground. There’s also Image Wand that turns a rough sketch into a rendered image using AI. However, outside of the creation tools, ChatGPT has been added to iOS 18.2 which includes Visual Intelligence. This feature lets users search using the camera on the iPhone 16.

ChatGPT has also been integrated into Siri. So the assistant will ask whether you want it to use ChatGPT to perform certain AI tasks on the iPhone.

iOS 18.2 also adds South African English (ZA) to Apple Intelligence. Up to now, if you want to use any Apple Intelligence features on your iPhone in South Africa, you would have to set the device region and language to the United States. Now you can keep your settings (and the measuring system and dictionary – thank goodness) and still use Apple Intelligence.

Keep in mind that iOS 18.2 is still in beta. The beta is also the first wave released to developers so it will take a few weeks to make it out to the public. You can always download and install the beta yourself without being a developer. But if you’re not into that, expect the full launch of iOS 18.2 in December sometime.

Apple hasn’t completed its Apple Intelligence feature set in this release either. We are still expected to get full Siri integration across apps and AI-enhanced priority notifications. Those features are expected to arrive in 2205. Given that it has been a week since Apple seeded the last iOS 18.1 beta out, we might get those last features as soon as the company releases iOS 18.2.
