Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Teaser Trailer Leaks Online

The teaser trailer for The Odyssey, the next movie from acclaimed director Christopher Nolan, has leaked online. The teaser was initially shown during early screenings of Jurassic World Rebirth and appeared to be exclusive to cinemas. However, phone footage of the trailer has now found its way online.

As reported by IGN, footage of the teaser trailer for The Odyssey captured on phones has leaked online (we won’t be posting it here due to copyright, but it can be found pretty easily on message boards and YouTube right now). Universal Pictures swiftly began pulling the leaked teaser trailer but it hasn’t stopped the footage from spreading like wildfire. Universal Pictures hasn’t commented on whether it would eventually make the trailer officially available to watch online at some point.

According to descriptions, the trailer shows actors Jon Bernthal and Tom Holland. A voice-over from Eumaeus, who was Odysseus’ slave and friend, opens the footage with shots of the Mediterranean sea and a Trojan Horse on a beach. We then see Odysseus’ son, Telemachus (Holland), meeting with Jon Bernthal’s King Menelaus. Telemachus asks about the whereabouts of his long-missing father who fought alongside Menelaus in the Trojan War.

Menelaus tells Telemachus several rumours about Odysseus’ location. When Telemachus brings up the possibility of his father being imprisoned, Menelaus says, “What prison could hold a man like that?” We get a brief glimpse of Odysseus from behind before the trailer cuts to the title.

The Odyssey is based on the Greek epics by Homer, telling the story of Odysseus and his ten-year journey back home after the Trojan War. Along the way, Odysseus encounters many perils with his ship’s crewmates and, guided by the gods, undertakes a decade-spanning journey. Meanwhile, his son Telemachus and his wife Penelope have to deal with suitors trying to take Penelope’s hand in marriage while Odysseus is presumed dead.

Christopher Nolan, the director behind Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight and Inception, is directing The Odyssey which arrives in cinemas on 17 July 2026. It stars Matt Damon as Odysseus.
