Civilization 7 Never Feels Overwhelming Thanks To One Major New Feature

I have already covered my top 5 starting tips for Civilization 7 in another guide, but if you’re still a bit worried that the game is daunting as a new player, let me share another great new feature I noticed in the game – consolidated menus!

Civilization VII is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The game is R100 cheaper locally if you purchase the disc version at R1,099.

Don’t get it confused, Civilization 7 is both an easy game and a difficult game when you want it to be. If you’re a new player, jumping into this title can be a walk in the park, but if you’re a veteran, you’ll find just the right amount of challenge here that will keep the intensity high. However, one change to how the game displays its systems makes this a really approachable game for new players.

Civilization 7 has toned down a lot of menu bulk and overall information in the game to help create a clearer, more understandable process. Everything from the research tree to the game’s city expansion and upgrading system has been tweaked to provide a cleaner, clearer experience for players.

One of the best parts of this trimmed-down viewing is that you’ll never feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information at one time. Take the research tree, for example. The HUD now only shows the research path for the current route you’re taking and the possible branches that you could choose as you progress through the game.

In previous Civ games, the entire research tree would be viewable from the start, and honestly, it would often result in me going off on a different path because I would take progression on like a skill tree in an RPG.

In Civ 7, the new, simpler menu focuses on the short-term growth of your empire and is easier to interact with and understand.

The same goes for the building mechanics. The game’s city building and upgrade system now shows the available options and the next step upgrades instead of every item and purchase. When you’re building on a new block, the menus provide clear information on what the tile will provide and the advantages it will offer.

These changes might seem like basic features, but when you’re dealing with a game so complex and layered in choice, it makes a big difference to new players. I personally find the experience easier to understand.

If you are a veteran player, you’re not really getting the short end of the stick here either because these changes don’t dumb down the game.
