The Civilization franchise is getting a unique VR port in Civilization VII – VR. The virtual and mixed reality game aims to teleport players into the series like never before and features a unique perspective on the iconic RTS mechanics. It is in development for Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.
Firaxis and 2K say that Civilization VII VR is presented to players through a board game-like construction. The mixed reality capabilities of the game will bring the board game into their world, and players can walk around the map and interact with it.
When playing multiplayer, players will then see their opponents standing around the board game field presented as the leaders they choose during the match. Firaxis also says the general match time for this VR edition won’t be as long as the traditional game. That’s because not everyone finds wearing a VR headset comfortable over a long period of time. You can, however, adjust the settings to allow for longer matches if you feel like it.
At the moment, Civilization VII VR doesn’t have a release date or pricing. 2K says it will arrive in the “spring,” which is autumn in our region. So you can expect it any time between March – May 2025. Watch the trailer below. You can also wishlist the game on the Meta Store at the moment.
