Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the latest RPG from Sandfall Interactive, isn’t just topping the charts of the highest-rated games of the year. Its soundtrack, composed by Lorien Testard, is now topping Billboard’s charts, which is another impressive achievement that the game can add to its growing collection of achievements so far.
Sandfall Interactive posted on X that the soundtrack for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 managed to reach #1 on Billboard’s Classical Album charts, #13 on the Official Soundtrack Album Chart and #31 on the Official Album Download Chart, clocking in at over 18 million streams since the game launched a couple of weeks ago. For a relatively small team of developers – and especially for a new composer who was discovered on Soundcloud and never worked on a game before – this is a noteworthy milestone.
The game’s description reads:
“Once a year, the Paintress wakes and paints upon her monolith. Paints her cursed number. And everyone of that age turns to smoke and fades away. Year by year, that number ticks down and more of us are erased. Tomorrow she’ll wake and paint 33. And tomorrow we depart on our final mission – Destroy the Paintress, so she can never paint death again. We are Expedition 33. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is a ground-breaking turn-based RPG with unique real-time mechanics, making battles more immersive and addictive than ever. Explore a fantasy world inspired by Belle Époque France in which you battle devastating enemies.”
In related news, a live-action movie adaptation of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is currently in the works at Story Kitchen, the studio that co-produced the live-action Sonic The Hedgehog movies. Not much else is known about the cast and crew at this point, though it’s surprising to see a live-action adaptation spring up so soon after the game’s release. It’s quite a cinematic experience so it’s easy to see how it might lend itself well to a movie adaption.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
