Comic Con Africa 2020 Cancelled and Replaced With Online Virtual Con

Reed Expeditions today announced the cancellation of the physical Comic Con Africa 2020 expo set to take place from 24-27 September. This is due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic which grips not only South Africa but the rest of the world. However, the organizers claim the show must go on in the form of an online virtual con. Reed Announced that during the same Comic Con Africa weekend, the organizer plans on hosting an online experience for fans. This online stream will showcase everything that would usually take place during Comic Con Africa including panels, stores, tournaments and more.

While details are scarce at this time, the organizers seem confident that the online replacement will provide South Africans with the same experience as connecting and engaging at the actual show.

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#ECFF00″ class=”” size=”21″]”We work hard all year to bring our fans the best in pop culture entertainment and content. By taking the Con Online we know that we will never be able to offer quite the same experience as connecting and engaging at the actual show, but we also don’t want to stop bringing our fans the fun and entertainment in 2020. COVID-19 won’t stop the dedicated fandoms and communities that Comic Con Africa engages with, so by offering an Online Con experience we can still not only keep our communities together but connect more fans and grow to ensure that our 2021 show is the biggest yet!”[/perfectpullquote]

The organizers have yet to reveal the schedule and lineup for the Comic Con Africa 2020 virtual Con event. However, they did provide information on next year’s show saying that anyone who has purchased a ticket to the 2020 convention can carry it over to next year with a price freeze. Those of you who wish to get refunded for the convention can do so through the Howler.

Reed Expeditions claims that some online streams during the Comic Con Africa 2020 virtual expo will require payment. This may include celebrity panels and exclusive content. However, they plan on bringing as much content as possible over that weekend at no cost.

You can find out more on the official website and stay tuned to the social media channels for more information over the next few weeks.  We will share more information on the guest lineup when we know more.
