However, one of the newest additions to Comic Con Cape Town will be Sew-A-Thon, a contest of sewing that will calls for some of the most talented and skilled local sewists to compete.

The six hour Sew-A-Thon will take place on the main stage at Comic Con Cape Town. A press release from the event organisers reads:

Taking place at the CTICC in Cape Town on Thursday, 27 April, Sew-A-Thon contestants will be briefed two weeks before the event on the challenge. After receiving the challenge, they will be able to cut the patterns and finish their mood board before the event. At Comic Con Cape Town, they will be challenged to bring their garment to life and model it on the main stage.

Judges will consider the presence of accurate and even stitching, if the garment is executed using correct tension, finishing techniques and even machine settings.

Angelique McGrath, Marketing Specialist for Brother International South Africa, stated:

“The Sew-a-thon is such a great opportunity for cosplayers to stretch their creative skills. We’re very excited to see the amazing talent at this, the second Brother Comic Con Sew-athon. And more so now that it is part of the main event in Cape Town. The collaboration between Brother and Comic Con Africa is one that brings our innovative products to a whole new audience.
