Concord PvP Multiplayer Shooter PS5 PC

Concord is Shutting Down Only Two Weeks After Launch

PlayStation has announced that Concord, its recently released multiplayer first-person shooter, is officially shutting down on 6 September – just two weeks since the game’s launch. Developer Firewalk Studios released a blog post explaining “our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended” and that the game will go offline this week Friday. Full refunds are also being given to all players who purchased the game on PS5 and PC.

“While many qualities of the experience resonated with players, we also recognise that other aspects of the game and our initial launch didn’t land the way we’d intended,” wrote Ryan Ellis, director at Firewalk Studios. “Therefore, at this time, we have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.”

Ellis mentions that the game will go offline as the studio “explores options”, though later added that refunds will be issued to all Concord players on PS5 and PC:

“While we determine the best path ahead, Concord sales will cease immediately and we will begin to offer a full refund for all gamers who have purchased the game for PS5 or PC. If you purchased the game for PlayStation 5 from the PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, a refund will be issued back to your original payment method.”

Concord will likely go down as one of the biggest bombs in gaming history. A recent report revealed that the live service game only managed to sell 25,000 copies across PlayStation and PC via Steam, attracting even less players than 2023’s worst game, The Lord of the Rings: Gollum.

Considering that Concord took eight years to develop with Firewalk Studios previously stating that it planned to support the game for years, it seems like that’s not happening any longer. Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what happens as the future of Firewalk Studios is now tragically up in the air.
