Concord PvP Multiplayer Shooter PS5 PC

Concord Sees 1000 Peak Players on PC During Beta Weekend

Concord kicked off its closed beta test this weekend across PC and PS5. Console owners were able to jump into the competitive shooter if they pre-ordered the game or had an active PlayStation Plus subscription – a decision made late last week just days before the test went live.

The only way to play the PC version this past weekend was to pre-order the game. Of which, it seems that very few people have done so. Concord peaked at only 1124 players during its busiest time on Steam this weekend.

To make matters worse, this peak only lasted an hour before the Concord PC beta began plummeting down to around 300 active players. The player base did increase on Saturday to around 600 players but then dropped down to 200. It never went past 700 players the entire weekend.

Granted, the only way to access the PC beta this weekend was to pre-order the game. Given the online skeptisim surrounding Concord, it seems that not many PC players have thrown money at the 5V5 shooter just yet. Keep in mind that if you did pre-order, you were also granted 4 additional beta codes. So to say “1000 gamers pre-ordered” the shooter isn’t entirely correct either.

Concord is hosting an open beta this weekend across PS5 and PC. The beta is available to all players with or without PlayStation Plus and without pre-ordering the game. So this weekend’s player stats will be a better sign whether or not PC gamers are buying into Sony’s new 5v5 hero shooter.

Back in May, PlayStation co-CEO Herman Hulst said that Sony would be focusing heavily on PC games going forward with most live-service titles releasing simultaneously on PS5 and PC day one. He claimed that PlayStation would still keep single-player and “sequels” to existing franchises on PS5. This business approach hopes to “entice PC gamers to jump to PS5 to play those games”.

Concord is the latest live-service game from PlayStation to launch on both platforms at the same time. This is following the huge success of Helldivers 2 back in March. Concord is set to launch on 23 August.
