Concord releases tomorrow on PS5 and PC. The shooter is out now in early access if you pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition too. However, while most PlayStation first-party games usually create a lot of noise online, Concord has been the complete opposite.
Since its announcement, the game has come under fire for being just another generic PvP shooter. Early player numbers during the beta were also not a good sign of things to come as the open beta raked in just one thousand players on PC during the playtest weekend.
At the moment Concord might be the Borderlands movie of video game launches as its release shows very little enthusiasm from players. Not to mention being out-shadowed by the likes of Black Myth: Wukong and Star Wars Outlaws.
The bigger problem, however, is that Sony might take a huge financial loss from the game – the game that took around eight years to develop.
Firewalk Studios worked on Concord for eight years according to the Lead Character Design developer on the project, Jon Weisnewski. The developer took to X to comment on the “good vibes” launch day saying he worked on the game for five of those eight years.
Weisnewski followed up by saying the studio plans to support Concord for a number of years to come. He implied that the studio is “strapped in and ready to push it for years to come”. Seemingly with free content, battle passes and all the other DLC that comes with a shooter like this.
Of course, while the internet has been brutal towards Concord, it is just fair to show the team some respect and appreciate their art. Eight years is a long time to work on a game and if it isn’t your type of game, move on and play something else. Rather that than spread nonsense online and fuel the negativity.
Concord is out tomorrow for Standard Edition owners. Catch up on the latest trailer for the game below. Fire Walk Studios reveals post-launch content plans for the game.
