Control 2 is currently in development at Remedy Entertainment. If the studio’s word wasn’t enough, the latest DLC for Alan Wake 2, titled The Lake House, also teased the sequel to Control as the developer’s next game. While details are still very scarce about its story, characters or release window, Remedy Entertainment recently revealed that the game will incorporate RPG elements into the mix, technically making it an action RPG.
As part of Remedy’s Capital Markets day results, the studio confirmed that Control 2 will feature RPG elements but stopped short of mentioning any specific details about how they’ll work in-game. The first game didn’t feature any role-playing elements whatsoever so fans are left speculating what this could mean for the story and gameplay of the sequel. More specifically, if it will give players some level of freedom in determining how the story unfolds and if protagonist Jesse Faden will have some sort of skill or levelling system.
In related news, Remedy’s Sam Lake revealed that movie and TV adaptations of Control and Alan Wake are still in the early days of development. He responded:
“Now, with Annapurna, we have a perfect partner and it feels like a genuine collaboration. Obviously, they bring in their prestige expertise and we bring in our universe and our games, and together we are exploring ideas. But yes, early days, but I am very excited.”
Control 2 is being co-financed by Annapurna Interactive as part of a partnership between the publisher and Remedy Entertainment. However, Remedy will self-publish the sequel. Explaining the partnership between Annapurna and Remedy in a little more detail, communications director Thomas Puha stated, “Above all it means Remedy is able to make Control 2 exactly the game we want it to be, while we now also have an incredible partner to extend our IPs to other mediums.”
