Fans hoping for Crash Bandicoot 5 might be in for some disappointing news as it seems like the project has been cancelled at Activision. The news originates from an illustrator and character designer who worked on Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, spilling the sad news on social media and implying that the fifth Crash game was just recently scrapped internally.
According to Nicholas Kole, an illustrator/character designer who worked on Crash Bandicoot 4, Crash Bandicoot 5 has reportedly been cancelled behind the scenes. “It is not Spyro, but some day folks will hear about the Crash 5 that never was and it’s gonna break hearts,” said Kole in a post on Twitter/X. Kole also mentions that another game codenamed ‘Project Dragon’, which fans assume is related to Spyro, had also been canned.
Activision hasn’t outright confirmed if the new Crash Bandicoot game has actually been cancelled so we recommend taking all of this with a pinch of salt. On the other hand, since the project wasn’t officially announced to the public, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever hear about the scrapped title apart from unused artwork that Kole says will surface in the weeks to come.

We’ve been hearing about a possible Crash Bandicoot 5 since 2022 from developer Toys for Bob, though nothing came of it over the years. There’s also the possibility that Toys for Bob is working on a new Spyro game which might be a different project than the one Kole says got cancelled. Since Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard, the trajectory of certain projects in development could’ve easily changed as well, including a new Crash game.
It’s not the most reassuring news for Xbox right now, especially since the company is facing massive backlash already following its recent massive price hike for Xbox Game Pass.
