Critics Say Elden Ring is a Masterpiece With Perfect Scores Across The Board

I, unfortunately, won’t be sharing an Elden Ring review any time soon on the site but given that the game’s embargo dropped yesterday, I wanted to share a few headline reviews for the game from media who were able to play it. By the look of things, Elden Ring is nothing short of a masterpiece with perfect scores from across most media outlets.

Reviewers have praised the game’s open-world claiming that FromSoftware has managed to reinvent the open-world genre and push the industry into a new generation of gameplay. Many critics have also praised the game’s accessibility saying that Elden Ring is the most approachable FromSoftware game to date.

We also get the feeling that Elden Ring is a big game with many reviewers being unable to finish the full game in the time given for the embargo. There’s no doubt that this game will go down in history as one of the best releases of all time. Already, Elden Ring is sitting as the highest-rated game on Open Critic and the third-highest rated game on Metacritic. Check out some Elden Ring reviews below.

VGC – 100

Elden Ring is a fantastic game that can still deliver the unmatched thrill of defeating a tough boss after an hours-long battle. Those who worship at the church of Souls-like will find a game that’s basically everything they ever wanted. –  Read the full review here

Game Rant – 100

However, when judged on its own merits, Elden Ring is a phenomenal game that will disappoint very few. It has most of the components that fans of the genre seek: a wondrous aesthetic, a feeling of mystery that invites exploration, skillfully designed and intimidating adversaries, and rich gameplay with a lot of replayability thanks to the various classes and builds. In the end, Elden Ring is more than just an open-world Dark Souls. It is strong in its own right, with tweaks to the classic Souls blueprint that create a refreshing new experience that still feels familiar. – Read the full review here.

TheGamer – 100

FromSoftware doesn’t rewrite the medium’s rulebook, but does tear its own tenets asunder while reconstructing them into a cohesive whole that outclasses all that came before it. The Lands Between invites you to explore it with an unparalleled level of freedom, offering up a plate of seemingly impenetrable challenges and intimately constructed stories that are always a delight to indulge in. This is, without doubt, one of the best games in recent memory. – Read the full review here

IGN – 10/10

Elden Ring is a massive iteration on what FromSoftware began with the Souls series, bringing its relentlessly challenging combat to an incredible open world that gives us the freedom to choose our own path. – Read the full review here.

Game Informer – 10/10

Elden Ring challenged me, captivated me, and enchanted me, an unyielding deluge of discovery and artistic vision unbound. Elden Ring represents a truly amazing combination of various game elements that all come together to create something fascinating, special, and unforgettable. Elden Ring isn’t just the best game this year; it’s one of the best games ever made. – Read the full review here.

I’m enjoying my time with the game, but I’m also not completely convinced that the series really needed this kind of open world. Although the Japanese developer put quite a lot of effort into the design of the Lands Between, this studio’s greatest strength still lies within the level design of rather linear sections. – Read the full review here.
