Studio MDHR, the developer behind 2017’s award-winning platformer Cuphead, is hiring for its next mystery game. The company recently put out a job listing seeking new talent to join the studio, suggesting that a new game is in development, either for a sequel to Cuphead or an entirely new IP.
On X, Studio MDHR’s official account recently put out a job listing seeking a Senior Unity Programmer “with experience working on games filled with character action, enemies, and boss combat.” The ‘boss combat’ requirement is interesting as Cuphead featured several boss encounters that made up a good majority of the game’s playtime. It seems like Studio MDHR is sticking to its strengths for this new mystery game, leading some to believe that a potential sequel to Cuphead might be on the table.
While the base game released in 2017, its DLC – cleverly titled The Delicious Last Course – was released five years later in 2022 as Studio MDHR didn’t want to put pressure on the development team during the global pandemic. Enough time has passed for a new title to have entered development, or possibly be well into development at this point.
Unfortunately, it’s anyone’s guess when the new game will be revealed so we’ll have to sit tight and wait for an official announcement from Studio MDHR.
Cuphead‘s description reads:
“Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings. Play as Cuphead or Mugman (in single player or local co-op) as you traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets while you try to pay your debt back to the devil!”
