During the Cyberpunk 2077 Night City Wire stream, CD Projekt RED announced a partnership with Studio Trigger. For those who don’t know, the anime studio is made up of former members of the iconic Gainax studio. Studio Trigger is working on an anime for Netflix set to premiere in 2022. Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners is a standalone story set in the world of CD Projekt Red’s upcoming open-world RPG.

CD Projekt Red describes the Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners anime as;
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”#F0FF0E” class=”” size=”21″]CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he chooses to stay alive by becoming an edgerunner—a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.[/perfectpullquote]
Cyberpunk 2077: Edgerunners anime includes some of the best talents onboard for the project. Hiroyuki Imaishi worked on Gainax’s Gurren Lagann. In addition, Kill la Kill and Promare. Hiroyuki is directing along with assistant director Masahiko Otsuka. The creative director is none other than Hiromi Wakabayashi, and character designers Yoh Yoshinari and Yuto Kaneko. The original score will be composed by Akira Yamaoka from Silent Hill.
Unfortunately, while the game is only releasing in November, you will need to wait even longer for the anime to land on Netflix. It will release sometime in 2022. In a way, it is nice to see the world of Cyberpunk expanding into the future. I am sure fans and gamers all over the world will be playing the game for another 5 years just as The Witcher 3 is widely popular still today.
