The upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which is codenamed Project Orion, has received a brief update from developer CD Projekt Red. The company recently released the anticipated Phantom Liberty expansion for Cyberpunk 2077 which was met with a positive critical reception. With the expansion finally done, CD Projekt Red is now doubling down on the development of the game’s sequel and according to the CCO, it’s all hands on deck at the studio.
Speaking during an investor presentation, CD Projekt Red chief creative officer Adam Badowski offered an update on the development of the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel. Badowski says that there are currently several teams spread across the United States and Poland working on the project, with many who previously worked on the first game and its expansion. Furthermore, the sequel is currently on a “conceptual design” level at the moment as it enters early development.

Badowski’s full update on the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel reads:
“This project is on a conceptual design level right now, and it’s going to be designed by a team of veterans who were responsible for fine-tuning Cyberpunk 2077 and designing Phantom Liberty. We’re going to work out of North America, Vancouver and Boston locations, team leadership are already there. And late in 2024, we’re going to work with teams comprising several dozen people, while as a target, half of the developers are going to work out of northern US and the other half out of Poland.”
Last month, all Cyberpunk 2077 players received a massive free update that essentially overhauled the game’s skill trees, systems and added a bunch of new content to line up with the launch of Phantom Liberty. Players still have to purchase the expansion separately if they wish to experience the new story content but beyond that, Cyberpunk 2077 is a much more refined game now than it was during its rocky launch.
Cyberpunk 2077 is now available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC. The Phantom Liberty expansion is only available on current-gen consoles (and PC).
