Science Saru’s 2024 hit supernatural rom-com anime Dandadan is set to receive a second season with the first episode debuting on 3 July. Ahead of season 2, the official English dub of the anime got a new trailer showcasing the English voice acting cast’s roles. Anime streaming service Crunchyroll will stream the next season weekly as it airs.
AJ Beckles voices protagonist Ken “Okarun” Takakura, a boy who believes in the existence of aliens while Abby Trott voices Momo Ayase, a psychic girl who believes in ghosts. The two become an unlikely match in their hunt to prove the existences of each other’s supernatural oddities, leading to some imaginative encounters and battles. The first season of Dandadan debuted last year to critical acclaim, going on to be nominated for several Anime of the Year awards.
Season 2 of the series will pick up directly where the first season left off on a rather intense cliffhanger. Science Saru, the Japanese animation studio known for Devilman Crybaby and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, will return to animate the second season of Dandadan. A majority of the English dub’s voice actors will be making a return.
The description of the series reads:
“This is a story about Momo, a high school girl who comes from a family of spirit mediums, and her classmate Okarun, an occult fanatic. After Momo rescues Okarun from being bullied, they begin talking. However, an argument ensues between them since Momo believes in ghosts but denies aliens exist, and Okarun believes in aliens but denies ghosts exist. To prove to each other what they believe in is real, Momo goes to an abandoned hospital where a UFO has been spotted and Okarun goes to a tunnel rumored to be haunted. To their surprise, they each encounter overwhelming paranormal activities that transcend comprehension. Amid these predicaments, Momo awakens her hidden power and Okarun gains the power of a curse to overcome these new dangers! Their fateful love begins as well!?”
