Dark Souls 3 PC Servers Online Features From Software

Dark Souls 3 Remaster Reportedly in Development

A remaster of Dark Souls 3, the 2016 dark fantasy RPG from Elden Ring developer From Software, is reportedly in development. This makes sense as Dark Souls 3 is currently the best-selling title in the series, selling 10 million copies worldwide since its launch eight years ago. With the gaming industry leaning more towards remasters and remakes every day, it was only a matter of time before Bandai Namco decided to revisit one of its biggest sellers that isn’t Elden Ring.

The report comes from leaker Nick Baker who claims that a remaster of Dark Souls 3 is currently in development, though he couldn’t share any more details at this time. As for what a remaster of Dark Souls 3 would entail, it probably means smoother visuals, higher resolutions and frame rates. The game already supports 60FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S but it comes at the cost of resolution. With the more powerful PS5 Pro hardware, it would be possible to experience the game in its best technical form today.

That said, it will take a lot of work to get Dark Souls 3 running at a stable frame rate on PS5 Pro, it seems. Recent tests revealed that even Elden Ring struggled to hit a stable 60FPS on PS5 Pro and that’s a much newer release. Granted, Elden Ring is also open-world so there’s a lot more to render compared to Dark Souls 3, which mostly consists of smaller, mostly linear areas and zones to explore.

That said, Bandai Namco might have more than just Dark Souls 3 remastered in development. According to a recent report, Bandai Namco is also working on a ‘definitive edition’ of Elden Ring that will apparently be making its way to the Nintendo Switch successor after the new console is announced. As with all rumours and reports, take this with a pinch of salt until we get confirmation from From Software or Bandai Namco.
