Guardians of the Galaxy and Dune actor Dave Bautista really wants Netflix to move forward with the live-action Gears of War movie. If you’ve been around the internet for long enough, Bautista has been rallying to play the part of protagonist Marcus Fenix for years at this point. Nobody is really contesting him, as he seems to be a pretty perfect fit for the role, plus he’s shown a lot of respect and praise for the games.
As reported by Comicbook.com, Dave Bautista wants Netflix to move the Gears of War movie forward. “It’s not like I’m not badgering them. Come on, Netflix. Get it together,” he said. Netflix first announced a live-action Gears of War movie all the way back in November 2022. It’s been over two years since we’ve had any concrete updates on the project. Initially, the plan was also to develop an animated series too but that hasn’t materialised either.
In March 2023, Netflix revealed that it had hired Jon Spaihts, the screenwriter behind Dune and Prometheus, to work on the script for the live-action movie.
Over on the gaming front, The Coalition is co-developing a new game in the series titled Gears of War: E-Day with Outriders studio People Can Fly. It will serve as a direct prequel to the first game, documenting the locust invasion on Emergence Day.
Other reports claim that Microsoft is working on a Gears of War Collection which will remaster the original trilogy. More interestingly, it’s been reported that this collection will head to PlayStation as well, marking the first time in the franchise’s history that the series has left Xbox and PC. This is part of Microsoft’s new strategy to slowly move away from developing first-party exclusives and make its titles more widely available on other platforms, which might include the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
