Will the film be as dark as “Joker”, we doubt it but the DC Birds of Prey already seems to be taking a much darker approach compared to the likes of the Justice League and Suicide Squad. It has been proven that these R-rated comic book films are well-received with Joker already becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time as well as the second-biggest DC movie ever released.

In South Africa, R-rated films get the classification of 18 according to the Film and Publication Board (FPB) so in case you were planning on taking your ten-year-old to see this DC film, it is not going to happen. The film will then also get its own sub-classifications including “language, drugs, and sexual content” which warrants the “18” rating.

DC Birds of Prey opens on 7 February 2020 in SA and stars Margot Robbie. The film follows DC villain Harley Quinn as she joins superheroes Black Canary, Huntress and Renee Montoya to save a girl from an evil crime lord. The film has been directed by Cath Yan and produced by Margot Robbie.
