It has been almost five years since Deep Silver announced the sequel to the 2011 survival horror, Dead Island and since then, the game has been in development hell. A couple of weeks ago, THQ Nordic revealed the game was still indeed in development after going silent for a couple of years.
The last we had heard about Dead Island 2, was that the team behind Sonic Team Racing, Sumo Digital, was working on the game. Dead Island 2 was even pulled off pre-order pages and vanished in thin air. However, after a few years, the game has just appeared again on the Microsoft Store.

The pre-order page is now live revealing a placeholder release date of 31 December 2019 for the game. This is after the listings went offline in late 2014 due to the game’s current state being a mystery. The pre-order page is only available on the Microsoft Store at the time of writing and that could mean Microsoft plans on re-revealing the game at E3 2019 or someone messed up and published the pre-order page by mistake.
Perhaps Microsoft has an agreement on the release of Dead Island 2? No one knows for sure right now. All we can hope is the game is actually in development and it will release soon because we all need some zombie brain smashing in our lives.
