Dead Island 2 Sells 1 Million Copies First Weekend Dambuster Studios

Dead Island 2 Expansion Roadmap Detailed – Skins Finally Arrive Too

Deep Silver has issued the first major patch for Dead Island 2 since its initial launch back in April. The update not only fixes some bugs which have been plaguing players for two months now but finally adds skins to the game. The skins are quite a controversial topic at the moment because back at launch, Deep Silver marketed the game’s Gold Edition to include skins but didn’t actually add them into the game… until now.

The skins are also limited to only two of the many Slayers you can play in the game which means unless you’re using Jacbob and Amy, you can’t use your Gold Edition Skin Pack. That’s because the Skin Pack isn’t actually a “Pack” at all but just a single for one of the characters

The patch also finally unlocks the pre-order incentive weapon pack. Players have wondered where the content was since the game’s initial launch promised to include it as cosmetics in the game.

Apart from this content arriving very late, Deep Silver has also provided an update on the two expansions headed to Dead Island 2 in the coming months. While there’s no sign of a New Game+ mode at this point or other game modes to provide extra replayability to the game, the two expansions might fix this issue.

The first expansion is called Haus. It is set to launch in Q4 of 2023 and by the look of things, follows some arty cult movement. The official description reads:

“How does a billionaire prepare for the zompocalypse? With a techno-death cult and a healthy splash of debauchery and gore.”

The second Dead Island 2 expansion is called SOLA Festival and is set to launch in the second half of 2024. It reads:

“Where LA’s party people can greenwash their way to ecstasy and save the planet in true LA fashion, one rave at a time.”

Both expansions are included in the Dead Island 2 Gold Edition. You’ll also be able to purchase them separately at launch. If you pre-order the Expansion Pass (or own it in the Gold Edition), you’ll also get access to the Red Demise Katana which is available in-game now.

Dead Island 2 was released in April and we reviewed it on the site. While the zombie slaying is somewhat fun, the game is still a rather shallow RPG with very little replayability. Slayers are copy-and-paste without any unique skills, there’s no endgame content either. Hopefully, this will change in the months ahead.
