Dead Island 2 was released last week and many gamers who picked up the Gold Edition or pre-ordered to get the special Memories of Banoi Weapon Pack were hoping to experience the game with these items. Unfortunately, all the extra content included in the special versions of Dead Island 2 doesn’t even exist yet. In fact, there’s no difference between buying the Standard Edition and the more expensive Gold Edition.
According to developer Dambuster, everything that is included in the Dead Island 2 Gold Edition, Deluxe Edition and the pre-order incentives will arrive in a few months. For the first time, the developer also revealed the two character packs included in the special editions. These packs are also scheduled to arrive at a much later date.

Keep in mind that Dead Island 2 has already been released (you can check out our review here). Players who spent extra money on the game have nothing to show for it. The pre-order weapons are also nowhere to be seen. Dambuster says the studio will issue the content to players “in the summer” which means you’ll have to wait until June – August to get stuff you paid for already.
In Dambuster’s defence, the studio didn’t ever state when this content was planned to release. Players just assumed that pre-order weapons and character skins would be in the game at launch.
If you pre-order the Gold/Deluxe/HELL-A Edition, you’ll receive bonus character packs for Amy and Jacob. They will be available for download soon after release.#DeadIsland #SeeYouInHELLA pic.twitter.com/OfIYxzksqP

Deep Silver, who published Dead Island 2, quickly issued an update on the digital stores to list the content as “post-launch”. This was updated when the studio announced the character skin packs for the first time…. after launch on 21 April. Up to this point, there was no mention at all of when these packs would arrive. The listings now include the following:
This character pack will be available post-launch. Customize your slayers with our premium character packs, which include a unique costume and weapon.
Players are also upset about the fact that up to launch, Dambuster didn’t even share what characters these packs would be for. Players assumed a “pack” would include a skin for every character. However, that is not the case. The first pack is a Silver Star Skin for Jacob and the second pack is for The Neurunner Skin for Amy. So unless you use these characters, you won’t benefit from the skins at all.
At the moment, Dead Island 2 features no customization options at all. You can’t change skins for your Slayer and you can’t change weapon skins either. So Dambuster likely didn’t even have the feature available at the time of launch. We suggest you avoid the Gold and Deluxe Edition versions of the game until this content is actually available.
