I cannot even recall the number of articles I have written over the past few years regarding Dead Island 2’s obvious disappearance in gaming. The game was announced back in 2013 and promised to release by the end of 2014. However, after completely vanishing, reports claimed that Dead Island 2 development was being tossed around at a number of studios. THQ Nordic then confirmed that Dead Island 2 was in active development under its umbrella of studios last year but the year before, an entire playable build of the game leaked online which you could most likely still find and install. Now, reports claim that Dead Island 2 is actually going to be re-revealed by the end of the year. This is the second time we have heard about this.
The news comes from Tom Henderson who claims that sources close to the project are aiming to re-reveal Dead Island 2 by the end of 2022. Although an exact release date isn’t clear yet, the game’s reveal is targeting The Game Awards show in early December.

The report claims that sources close to the project have emphasised the game’s focus on co-op. According to playtests at Dambuster Studios (yet another studio house tackling the game), co-op sessions have proven to be a success which changed the game’s overall focus during development. Dead Island 2 will reportedly feature a new cast of characters with 5-6 playable members each boasting their own play style, abilities and skills. Dead Island 2 takes place across multiple locations including Hollywood, San Francisco and more.
The report also states that some YouTubers have already playtested Dead Island 2. These users have praised the game’s gameplay while also claiming that it is currently in a “decent state of development”. One user who was part of the test said “it’s probably my most anticipated game after playing it”.
Deep Silver parent company, Embracer Group mentioned during its last financial report that Dead Island 2 would release before the end of this fiscal year. That means that the game will most likely release before 31 March 2023. We also heard reports earlier this year that Dead Island 2 was cancelled for PS4 and Xbox One. The game is only in development now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
