Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Capcom New Frank West

Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster Announced – Fans are Mixed on New Frank West

Capcom has officially announced Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster, a full remaster of the original Dead Rising game. However, fans are quite mixed on the design and voice of protagonist Frank West, who was previously voiced by TJ Rotolo. It seems like a new voice actor has stepped up to do the remaster but it’s been met with a divisive reception.

The reveal trailer for Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster shows Frank West heading to a familiar shopping mall location via a helicopter, giving us a better look at his new design. For the most part, Frank’s character model has received a pretty big upgrade with more expressive facial features – some fans went as far as calling him “Frank East” due to how he looks nothing like the original character model.

More surprisingly, it doesn’t seem like Frank West will be voiced by TJ Rotolo this time, who has been the recognisable voice of the character in both Dead Rising and Dead Rising 2, returning to provide his voice again in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite. Rotolo was replaced by Ty Olsson in Dead Rising 4.

“Man, [Frank’s] original voice was so iconic that I haven’t played these games in so many years but could still tell it was wrong,” said one commenter under the reveal trailer. “Come on Capcom, wasn’t it clear as day the last time this happened? Frank without TJ Rotolo is simply not Frank,” said another commenter. “This didn’t even happen with freaking Chris or Leon. TJ is such an iconic voice, he IS Frank.”

Despite being billed as a remaster, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster is actually closer to a full remake with its updated visuals, new voice acting work and presumably refined gameplay, though we have yet to see the game in action. No release date was announced but it will be coming to PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
