Deadpool and Wolverine director Shawn Levy is reportedly in talks to direct the next big Avengers movie which was previously titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. While Secret Wars is still planned to be the bigger event movie in the MCU, the next step on the journey will be the first of a two-parter similar to Infinity War.
As reported by Deadline, Shawn Levy is in talks with Disney and Marvel Studios to helm the next Avengers movie which doesn’t have a new official title yet. It was formerly known as Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and had Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton attached, though he dropped out and is now directing a live-action Naruto movie.
Marvel Studios seemingly decided to drop “The Kang Dynasty” as the subtitle shortly after Kang actor Jonathan Majors was accused of domestic violence. The actor is no longer playing the role of Kang as Marvel scrambles to find a new overarching threat for the Avengers to face in the coming event movies. Some believe that it might be Galactus, who was recently cast with actor Ralph Ineson in the role.
Marvel Studios hasn’t revealed its full game plan yet regarding how it plans to go forward in the MCU. There are several projects in the works including The Fantastic Four, Blade and more Disney Plus TV shows, though we don’t really have a clear vision of upcoming releases. Marvel is reducing its output of annual TV show and movie projects in order to bring a bit more focus back to the dwindling MCU, which had a string of critical and commercial failures over the past few years.
Deadpool and Wolverine arrives in cinemas worldwide on 26 July 2024. In case you missed it, check out the R-rated debut trailer.
