Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, the long-awaited sequel to 2019’s Death Stranding from Kojima Productions, is available in early access right now for players who coughed up a little extra money, though it’s set to release worldwide tomorrow. Before jumping in, players should know how long it will take to complete the game’s campaign as well as its side content for completionists. Here’s how lon it takes to beat Death Stranding 2.
Death Stranding 2 takes players across a couple of new continents with Australia forming the main map for the vast majority of your playthrough. It’s a massive, sprawling open world map with plenty of side content, secrets and locations to uncover. For the most part, the sequel is a longer experience than the first game but not by much, depending on what you do and whether or not you just focus on the main story and path.
For Death Stranding 2’s main story, it should take players around 30-40 hours to complete. In my playthrough, I estimated that the main story took me around 40 hours to beat and that’s excluding the side content and quests which added to the playtime. According to HowLongtoBeat, the first Death Stranding took players roughly the same amount of time to complete the main story so you’re looking at a similar length for the sequel’s main path.
However, that length goes up significantly once you factor in the sequel’s large quantity of side content to complete. Adding that to the overall length and you’re looking at a playthrough that will probably take you upwards of 70 hours or more to beat. On that note, we strongly recommend players take their time completing side activities as much as possible, since they’re packed with useful resources as rewards and more surprising celebrity cameos that you won’t get to discover while playing the main story.
Death Stranding 2: On The Beach releases on 26 June 2025 exclusively for PS5. We recently unboxed the Collector’s Edition and Limited Edition DualSense Controller. Both are still in stock in SA. Check out the unboxing below and pick your’s up here.
