Death Stranding 2 How to Unlock Fast Travel

Death Stranding 2 – How to Unlock Fast Travel

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is out today on PS5 and players are slowly working their way through the lengthy story of Kojima Productions’ massive action-adventure game. The world of Death Stranding 2 features a truly gargantuan open world map of Australia (and a bit of Mexico) and you’ll be spending a lot of your time travelling by foot or vehicle. However, fast travel is eventually unlocked if you prefer to get around quicker. Here’s how to unlock fast travel in Death Stranding 2.

Death Stranding 2 features a central hub ship called the DHV Magellan which you’ll frequently be returning to and using during the game. While the Metal Gear-looking ship is capable of using tar currents underground to quickly travel around areas already linked to the chiral network, you can’t actually use fast travel yet.

Fast Travel Using The DHV Magellan

In order to unlock fast travel for the DHV Magellan, you’ll need to progress the story up until Order 12: Investigate Unusual Tar Currents Near F1. Luckily you can tackle this mission fairly early in the game once you reach Australia. After a cutscene and a boss fight against a mecha BT, you need to speak to Fragile. Once Sam awakens from his next slumber, Tarman will inform him that the DHV Magellan can now move around more freely, giving you access to fast travel.

To fast travel with the DHV Magellan, open the world map and you’ll see a new “Chart Course” option in the upper-right corner of the screen. This will bring up a list of places that the ship can fast travel to (of course, these areas will all need to be connected on the chiral network first). If you’re on the ship when the DHV Magellan moves, you’ll also teleport to that location. If you’re off the ship, you’ll only be sending the Magellan to that specific place.

Fast Travel Using Transponders

There is an alternative method of fast travel in Death Stranding 2 and it involves using transponders. These are structures that can be built almost anywhere using a PCC level 2 unit, as long as the area is on the network. Every main base or fort also comes equipped with a built-in transponder.

However, there is a catch for using transponders. All cargo and tools that Sam has equipped on him can’t be transported via transponders. Instead, they’ll be sent to the private locker of the transponder you just built. This is to prevent players from abusing the structures as fast travel points for hauling cargo, making them less reliable. Transponders are also completely inoperable during long sections of the game for story reasons, so they’re not as handy as using the DHV Magellan.
