Death Stranding 2 Might Be Causing PS5s to Overheat

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach might be causing some PS5s to overheat whenever the map menu is pulled up. It doesn’t seem to be affecting every player but it’s happening frequently enough to many PS5 players that it’s raising some alarm bells. Kojima Productions has yet to comment on why this is happening or provide any possible solutions but Reddit users have a few quick fixes that might remedy the problem for now.

As reported by GameSpot, several posts on Death Stranding 2’s subreddit recently began popping up, all claiming that their PS5 consoles were overheating after they brought up the game’s map menu on-screen. This eventually triggers the PlayStation bring up a “too hot” message. Redditors theorised that the map menu is running at an unlocked frame rate which could be causing the console to overheat. However, it’s worth noting that this problem hasn’t been reported yet for PS5 Pro as base PS5s are mainly experiencing the issue.

Kojima Productions will likely issue an update to fix the issue soon but for now, Redditors claim that rebooting the console or allowing it to cool down for a few minutes is a quick remedy, though the problem still seems to persist for many players who have to inevitably bring the map back up again when plotting a route or figuring out their location. One commenter claimed that their PS4 also overheated when bringing up the map in Horizon Zero Dawn, suggesting that this could be an issue of the Decima Engine specifically.

The good news is that you don’t have to bring up the map to get a glimpse of Hideo Kojima’s secret cameo, which appears in a star constellation at night in-game.
