Death Stranding 2, or otherwise officially titled Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, is the anticipated upcoming sequel to the original 2019 action/adventure game from Kojima Productions. A couple of trailers have been released since its announcement, though there’s still no release date in sight. According to creator Hideo Kojima, the filming and recording for the game is complete as it enters a year-long “adjustment phase.”
As reported by Japanese publication Famitsu, Hideo Kojima recently appeared on a radio broadcast to briefly talk about Death Stranding 2. According to the director, the filming and recording for the game is done (it’s unclear if this is the English or Japanese cast), though it has now entered an “adjustment phase” that will take roughly a year to complete. This means the release date for Death Stranding 2 is at least still over a year away.
Kojima also talked about the most recent trailer released for Death Stranding 2 (below), which he explained was meant to convey the aesthetics, themes and gameplay elements that have been carried over from the first game while introducing some weird and wonderful new characters like Troy Baker’s redesigned Higgs, Elle Fanning’s character and a strange talking puppet.
The description for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach provided by Kojima Productions reads:
“Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam—with companions by his side—sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.”
In related news, A24, the movie production company behind Everything Everywhere All at Once and Talk to Me, is developing a live-action adaptation of Death Stranding. We’ve had little updates on the movie project since its announcement last December.
