Death Stranding Director’s Cut File Size Revealed for PS5

PlayStation and developer Kojima Productions revealed Death Stranding Director’s Cut for PS4, PS5 and PC last week, which adds a multitude of new features, modes, gadgets and more to the game, on top of expanding the story content (which is still mostly being kept a secret). Fans of Death Stranding can look forward to a bigger package with this definitive edition on September 24th, and it looks like you won’t have to free up much space as the game’s file size has been revealed for PlayStation 5.

The file size for Death Stranding Director’s Cut on PS5 weighs in at about 68.627 GB, as revealed by PlayStation Game Size. This will include the base game and all the additional content that comes with the expanded Director’s Cut. We assume this file size might be around the same mark for the PS4 and PC versions too, so free up some space (though not as much as that next Call of Duty update) if you want to re-experience all that Death Stranding has to offer.

Game director Hideo Kojima does have some reservations about the naming convention of the “Director’s Cut”, however, as he expressed his displeasure on Twitter lately. Kojima stated on Twitter:

“A director’s cut in a movie is an additional edit to a shortened version that was either released reluctantly because the director did not have the right to edit it, or because the running time had to be shortened. In the game, it is not what was cut, but what was additionally produced that was included. [Director’s] Plus? So, in my opinion, I don’t like to call ‘director’s cut.'”

From the sounds of it, there’s nothing in the Director’s Cut that was actually cut, but rather a new batch of content meant to be included in the expanded package. It makes sense from that perspective, though I imagine the “Director’s Cut” label is being mandated by Sony as they’re also planning the Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut.
