Bungie has detailed a bunch of new content coming to Destiny 2 this year, including two new expansions, cross-over events, and major overhaul updates to the core game.
Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate is the first expansion to the game, and according to Bungie, this expansion will launch the new “Fate Saga”. This new saga is going to be the focus for the game’s story going forward after Destiny 2 wrapped up the Light and Darkness Saga in 2024 with the last expansion.
Edge of Fate is expected to launch on 15 July and bring with it new stories, new locations, weapons, a raid, a new dungeon, and gear. This expansion will also get a “Major Update” on 9 September with reworked sandbox meta, events, modifiers, and challenges. Bungie is calling this September update Ash and Iron.
Both the Edge of Fate and Ash and Iron will come with their own rewards pass, which is essentially the new premium season content. This is all part of the “Reclamation Season”.
Then, Destiny 2: Renegades will launch on 2 December. This is the second major expansion to the game. It comes with its own premium season content under the ‘Lawless Season’, new weapons, story missions, gear, a raid, and more.
This Renegades expansion is seemingly inspired by Star Wars. Not only does the logo look like a Star Wars movie, but the teaser trailer includes weapons from the series as well as a lightsaber replica. Bungie hasn’t shared anything about this content yet.
You can pre-order all of this content already. The package as is stands, is called Destiny 2: Year of the Prophecy. There’s an Ultimate Edition which includes both expansions and access to all the rewards pass seasonal updates. However, given Destiny 2’s heavy monetization system, there will likely be other purchases not included in this package somewhere down the line.
