Destiny: Rising

Destiny: Rising Mobile Game Set in Post Dark-Age Era – Alpha Test Confirmed

NetEase has announced Destiny: Rising – a new mobile RPG shooter set in the same Bungie universe as the main Destiny game. The announcement comes after months of rumours that Bungie was developing a mobile spin-off to Destiny.

Like most mobile games, Destiny: Rising is a free-to-play game. It includes both PvP and PvE modes. Players share a world with other players and they can create their own characters, kit them out with cool gear and guns and fight aliens. By the look of the trailer, Destiny: Rising will have the same amount of space magic you love from the main game but on a phone.

NetEase has been working on Destiny: Rising for a while now. The studio invested $100 million into Bungie back in 2018 before the development kicked off. According to the press release, this mobile game is set in an alternate Destiny timeline that explores the post-Dark Age era before the Tower existed and Guardians were created.

The agreement to make a spin-off game has allowed NetEase creative freedom to develop its own storyline and vision for the project. So it hasn’t been held back by the ongoing Bungie saga. Players will also get to pick certain “Heroes” in Destiny: Rising that are pre-set with abilities and playstyles. However, there is room to customize them. One hero is Ikora Rey, an existing character in Destiny and Destiny 2.

The mobile game includes similar enemies like the Hive, Vex and Fallen. It includes single-player modes, co-op, competitive multiplayer modes and strikes. No word if Raids will return. In the trailer, I also spotted Ghosts, Lightbearers, Iron Lords, Warlords, Warlocks and cool-looking supers.

With the help of legendary Iron Lords, humanity has broken free the shackles of tyranny and began to rally together against the alien forces intent on its extinction. Amidst the chaos of this early age for The City, a new generation of Lightbearers, resurrected by mysterious entities known as Ghosts, set out to restore humanity’s prominence and secure its future.

Destiny: Rising will be playable in both first-person and third-person. You can also use a touchscreen or a controller. We don’t know what the minimum device requirements are yet for the game.

NetEase is tight-lipped regarding the monetization of Destiny: Rising. The company says the upcoming alpha test will let players get a good first look at the game. The test is expected to kick off on 1 November. You can sign up for it here.
