Devilsdorp Follows The Krugersdorp Killings in New Showmax Docu-Series

There is always something chilling about watching a murder documentary set in your country. If you are a South African then you probably know or have heard of the Krugersdorp killings. Showmax has announced the release date for the upcoming local docu-series Devilsdorp. The true-crime docu-series follows the story of the 2016 so-called “Krugersdorp satanic murders” that were linked to 11 killings by the group called the Electus per Deus cult.

According to director David Enright, Devilsdorp is the result of 18 months of research. By the sound of things, viewers are in for an uncomfortable viewing experience as the show touches on the killings including the killer mom, her two children and the infamous cult that made international news.

Devilsdorp not only includes some intense reenactments, but Showmax says the series also features first-hand encounters from the likes of Captain Ben Booysen, the senior investigating officer; deputy director of Public Prosecutions Gerrit Roberts; Discovery claims specialist Shane Chatzkelowitz; and journalist Marizka Coetzer.

“The result of an 18-month research process, Devilsdorp shows again that truth is stranger than fiction, especially in South Africa. This is the story of the events that rocked an entire community and forever changed the lives of those involved, especially the families of the victims. What started as a group of devout Christians trying to help a former satanist escape the satanic church ended in a murderous spree involving a killer mom, her two children, and a cult with more victims than members. It may all sound too far-fetched to be believed, except it really happened – just down the road from us.”

Showmax is set to debut all four episodes of Devilsdorp starting on 29 July 2021. The series is only available on Showmax.
