Devs Investigating PS5 Pro Games Looking Worse After Upgrade

The PS5 Pro has proven to be a great upgrade for most users as games utilize the extra power to deliver higher frame rates and resolution. However, some upgrades haven’t gone down too well. According to tests, certain titles which have recently been enhanced for the PS5 Pro show a downgrade in visuals and performance.

At the moment, three games are part of the problem. Silent Hill 2, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and Alan Wake 2 have all been “upgraded” for the PS5 Pro but have suffered with reduced visual fidelity instead. Developers claim this is related to PSSR which for some reason, isn’t working properly with Unreal Engine.

Keep in mind that all three of those games are built in Unreal Engine. Reports claim that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor sees resolution drop down to as low as 648p during performance mode. PSSR has also caused graphical hitches to appear in-game as objects shimmer and blur out of focus.

Silent Hill 2, on the other hand, is having a different battle on its own. Users claim the game hasn’t been upgraded at all despite being advertised as PS5 Pro Enhanced. Tests show the game runs at the same performance and resolution as the base PS5 console with no improvements whatsoever. Some users say that enabling performance mode on Silent Hill 2 then created a horrible shimmering effect that appears across objects and in reflections. You can see this below:

This is “PS5 Pro Enhanced.” This is false advertising, blatantly. This is WORSE standard PS5.

Alan Wake 2 then has similar issues. PSSR has seemingly added grain to the game’s visuals while at the same time, the upgrade has caused unstable frame rates and a drop in resolution in Quality Mode compared to the base PS5 console. Users have complained about the shimmering which is a clear downgrade from a visual point of view.

At the moment, Bloober Team and Respawn have stated that the studios are looking into these downgraded visuals. Remedy hasn’t said anything. The studio did release an update for Alan Wake 2 yesterday with “performance and bug fixes” but users report that the game still has the same downgraded visuals and shimmering.

Other games aren’t holding up as well after being upgraded for the PS5 Pro either. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is also suffering from a shimmering issue while at the same time, frame rates aren’t as stable as base PS5. Empire of Ants also shimmers with a lower resolution than the base PS5. It is unclear when these issues will be resolved.
