Diablo 4 launched yesterday for those who didn’t pre-order the Deluxe or Ultimate editions for early access on 2 June but sales have been pretty monumental for Blizzard Entertainment. According to pre-launch unit sales, Diablo 4 has become the company’s fastest-selling game of all time, though exact sales figures weren’t disclosed yet.
As reported by Video Games Chronicle, the pre-launch unit sales for Diablo 4 were exceptionally high on both consoles and PC. The game was reportedly played for around 93 million hours during its four-day early access period alone, meaning pre-orders for the Deluxe and Ultimate editions sold considerably well. Blizzard has yet to reveal the exact sales figures but we should hear more from the company soon if these results are anything worth boasting about.

Blizzard president Mike Ybarra talked about Diablo 4 and how the studio aimed to create something special for fans:
“Our vision at Blizzard is to create legendary experiences for all to share, and Diablo IV is an incredible realization of that vision. With highly customizable gameplay, gripping storytelling, and plenty of options around how to engage with the world, this masterfully crafted expression of the Diablo universe is an outstanding example of what our talented development teams are capable of.”
In comparison, Diablo 3 sold 3.5 million copies in its first 24 hours and by the end of 2012, had sold over 12 million units to become the best-selling PC release of that year. As of 2022, Diablo 3 had collectively sold over 30 million copies worldwide. Diablo 4 has a lot to live up to if it plans to overtake its predecessor but that shouldn’t be a difficult task, judging by the positive early reception and strong reviews that will undoubtedly kick up more interest in the game.
In related news, one committed Diablo 4 player somehow managed to hit the game’s max level cap in just 56 hours.
Diablo 4 is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
