As reported by IGN and PCGamesN, Diablo 4 microtransactions will be a thing but before everyone starts losing their minds and screaming “Pay to win!” it is very important to note that these should be cosmetic only.

The game’s lead designer, Joe Shely, spoke to Twitch.tv streamer Quin69, where the streamer asked if players will just buy the base game, or if subscriptions and microtransactions will factor in. Joe Shely replied with the following:

With Diablo 4 microtransactions, there will be some kind of shop according toe Joe Shely, but it is still very early days.

it’s also an opportunity to have more options available than you would otherwise. Further elaborating on the positive of Diablo 4 microtransactions, Joe Shely explained that:

As long as the microtransactions remain cosmetic only, then it shouldn’t be a big deal really and no one will force you to buy them. Another interesting point from what Shely said is “expansions” pointing toward the possibility of multiple expansions instead of just one.
