The Game Awards 2022 All Announcements Trailers Death Stranding 2 Diablo 4 Final Fantasy XVI

Diablo Series Has a 10-Year Roadmap – No Mention of Diablo 5

Blizzard Entertainment recently laid out the 2025 roadmap for Diablo 4, giving players a taste of all the new content coming to the game over the next 12 months. Series head Rod Fergusson says his plan for the franchise actually covers the next decade as he has a 10-year roadmap in mind. Unfortunately, Fergusson made no mention on Diablo 5 or if that 10-year plan also covers a potential sequel.

Fergusson recently spoke to Riot Games co-founder Marc Merrill who asked him if he was thinking about “the next big inflection point and instalment for Diablo.” The series head didn’t give a direct answer, leaving fans hanging on the possibility that Diablo 5 could arrive much sooner than the time between the third and fourth game’s releases. However, he did state that there’s a 10-year roadmap already laid out for the franchise.

Fergusson responded:

“We’re here for the long haul. We’ve been doing long-range planning recently. And I’ve created a roadmap – a 10-year roadmap… it was actually a 12-year [roadmap] – I can see this, this, this and this and all these different things that we can do, [which] is really inspiring. And it’s really exciting. We’re focused on what players want… I can’t tell you much more than that.”

In other news, Diablo 4 could be heading to the Nintendo Switch 2, though Blizzard has yet to make an official announcement. Nintendo’s next-gen console is already attracting plenty of third-party developers due to its improved hardware that brings it closer to current-gen consoles, with titles like Elden Ring, Final Fantasy VII Remake, Cyberpunk 2077, Street Fighter 6, Civilization VII and Borderlands 4 all confirmed for the system.

If you’re feeling a bit nostalgic or burnt out on Diablo 4, we’ve also broken down why Diablo 3 is still worth playing today.

Diablo 4 is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
