Disney hosted its annual D23 expo this weekend following some big announcements that took place at San Diego Comic Con 2024, including the casting of Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom. However, the company had a lot more to show than just new Marvel trailers and project reveals. Here’s a roundup of D23 2024 and all the biggest announcements and trailers to come out of the show over the past weekend.
This year’s D23 expo was quite eventful, showcasing everything coming out of Disney animation, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and other properties in the near future. We got some new details for the next Avatar movie as well as the official title, new announcements for both Toy Story 5 and Incredibles 3, more Star Wars goodness and Marvel-related surprises.

Moana 2 Gets Official Trailer – Live-Action Remake Also Coming
Disney kicked off D23 2024 with a new trailer for Moana 2, the sequel to the hit animated movie starring Auli’i Cravalho and Dwayne Johnson. Along with the trailer, Disney also announced that Moana 2 will hit cinemas on 27 November 2024. A live-action remake of Moana is also in development at Disney and it’s expected to arrive in 2026.
Snow White Gets First Teaser Trailer
Disney debuted the first teaser trailer for its upcoming live-action Snow White movie which seems faithful to the original story. It stars Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen. It arrives in cinemas on 21 March 2025.
Live-Action Lilo & Stitch Shares First Look at Stitch
Still on the live-action train, Disney also revealed the first look at CGI Stitch for the upcoming live-action Lilo & Stitch movie. It’s expected to hit cinemas in summer 2025.

Incredibles 3 Officially Revealed – Brad Bird to Return
Incredibles 3 was also revealed by Disney during D23 2024. Writer and director Brad Bird, who helmed the first movie, is set to return for the third outing. No details were revealed as the project is seemingly still in the early stages of development at Pixar.

New Toy Story 5 Details Revealed
We know that Toy Story 5 is in the works but we didn’t know what it would focus on (considering that the last two movies gave quite definitive endings for its characters). As it turns out, there’s a lot more story to tell. Woody, Jessie and Buzz will all return as the toys have to deal with their new worst enemy: children preferring iPads over toys. Yep, that’s the official story. The movie hits cinemas in summer 2026.
Elio is An Original Pixar Movie Coming in 2025
Disney gave audiences at D23 a closer look at Elio, it’s new original project coming in summer 2025. Zoe Saldana will join the cast of the movie. Unfortunately, no footage was shared online but it will revolve around a young boy who accidentally becomes the ambassador for Earth to the alien “Communiverse.”

Hoppers is Another Original Pixar Movie Coming in 2026
Apart from Elio, Disney also announced Hoppers as another original Pixar movie coming in 2026. Details are scarce about the project but we know it follows a girl named Mabel as she transfers her consciousness to a robot beaver in order to learn more about the world of beavers.

Frozen 3 Exists and It’s Coming in 2027
Disney also confirmed that Frozen 3 will release in 2027. It should come as no surprise considering the huge success of the first two movies. The cast hasn’t been announced to return yet.

Zootopia 2 Announced
Zootopia 2 also got announced as another sequel to a big hit at Disney Animation. New details were shared by Judy Hopps actress Ginnifer Goodwin during the panel.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Debuts First Trailer
Star Wars fans were treated to the first trailer for the upcoming series, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, starring Jude Law as a force user named Jod Na Nawood. It’s set some time after the events of Return of the Jedi during the New Republic era. The show will stream on 3 December exclusively on Disney Plus.
Agatha All Along Gets Official Trailer
We may be experiencing Marvel fatigue in slow motion right now – at least as far as the Disney Plus TV shows go – but Disney still showed off another new trailer for Agatha All Along during D23. It’s set after the events of WandaVision and follows the titular witch as she must complete a “magical gauntlet of trials.”
Avatar 3 is Called Avatar: Fire and Ash
Director James Cameron seems to be working through the elements for his Avatar sequels. The third Avatar movie will officially be titled Avatar: Fire and Ash. New details about the anticipated project were shared during D23 along with some new concept art ahead of its release on 19 December 2025.

Tron: Ares Enlists Nine Inch Nails to Compose Score
Tron: Legacy snatched up Daft Punk for its memorable score and it looks like the sequel might also deliver another banger soundtrack as the movie has enlisted Nine Inch Nails to score the upcoming sequel, Tron: Ares.

Percy Jackson and The Olympians Season 2 Gets Teaser Trailer
The Percy Jackson and The Olympians TV show get its first teaser trailer for season 2, currently slated for a 2025 release date.
Mufasa: The Lion King Gets Trailer
Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to The Lion King, follows Mufasa’s younger years as a cub who becomes brothers with Taka (later to be known as Scar). I’m sure it will be interesting to see how Mufasa wrestled the throne from Scar, though we hope that the lions will at least be a bit more expressive this time. It’s directed by Moonlight‘s Barry Jenkins and currently set to release in cinemas on 20 December 2024.
Other Star Wars and Marvel Updates
As a rapid-fire list of announcements regarding Star Wars and Marvel, Disney showed new footage of Ironheart, which follows genius inventor Riri Williams who later crafts her own Iron Man suit of armour. Disney also revealed that Andor season 2 will be the last season and follows Diego Luna across three years on his road to joining the Resistance. Finally, The Mandalorian & Grogu movie also got some footage shown to audiences.
