Disney Reportedly Wants Johnny Depp Back for Pirates 6

Disney is reportedly considering bringing back Johnny Depp to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow for Pirates of the Caribbean 6. The actor was previously the subject of an infamous alleged domestic violence case with his ex-wife Amber Heard. Depp stated that Disney had fired him from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies in light of the allegations. The case was eventually ruled in Depp’s favour after Heard was found guilty.

According to insider Daniel Richtman, Disney reportedly wants Depp to play Jack Sparrow again in Pirates of the Caribbean 6, though this conflicts with previous rumours that the franchise would be rebooted with a female lead. However, there’s a catch to his return. According to Richtman, Disney only wants Depp back for a supporting role in the next movie.

While Johnny Depp was mainly a supporting character in the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, the franchise quickly shifted to him becoming the main character of the fourth and fifth movies due to his popularity. It’s unclear if the next movie will hire him in a supporting role that gives him more screen time or if he’s simply being considered for a cameo.

It seems like Disney is still deciding on a new course for the Pirates movies, though the company is making big moves elsewhere. Last month, Disney invested $1.5 billion in Epic Games to build a “connected universe” in Fortnite. The announcement was vague and didn’t indicate if it would be a kind of Metaverse experience or new crossovers added to the battle royale game.

Last month, the company also revealed that it had lost 1.3 million subscribers on its streaming service, Disney Plus, following a hefty price increase.
